im going to a different school than my sister, and i want to make friends so i wont be alone!!
DONT SAY BE YOURSELF!!Can somebody give advice on how to make friends next year in high school??
There are multiple ways to make friends in high school. It's not hard at all. The main thing is that you have to be calm and must be willing to step out of your comfort zone to meet people.
-Usually sometime within your first week, your teachers will make you pair up with someone in class and make you two interview each other. Then you and your partner will have to introduce each other to the class. It's a great time to know everyone in the classroom. Through the interview, you will inevitably develop rapport with your partner, and you just might make a best friend immediately.
-ask one of your classmates a question about a current assignment. You will not only be able to get your answer, but also you will break the ice with the other classmate. Later you can talk about anything with him/her.
-if you are waiting in the cafeteria line, try to strike up a conversation with the person behind or in front of you. Make a funny comment about the size of the line, or ask him/her about the quality of the food.
-you might also have to work in groups. Great way to meet multiple people simultaneously.
-join a team, whether it's a sports team or debate team. You will make friends easily because you will all share same interests.
-join high school club. You will meet plenty of people there.
-Finally, DO NOT EVER BE QUIET, OR ELSE PEOPLE WILL JUDGE YOU AS ARROGANT/SNOBBISH AND/OR WEAK (in which case you will get picked on by other kids), even if in reality you are shy. Trust me, once you gain a reputation, it sticks with you for your entire 4 years of high school. Once word gets out that you are quiet, people you have never met will refuse to talk to you because of your ';reputation'; as an arrogant person. Can somebody give advice on how to make friends next year in high school??
Be friendly and outgoing. HOWEVER don't cross that line of overly annoying pop-up book from hell. Give people their space but strike up a convo when you can. NOT during class, you don't want to get someone in trouble if you're trying to be a friend.
Friendly, outgoing, smile a lot, be polite. Don't ';try to act cool';. People don't know you so you don't have a spot yet. Introduce yourself.
If ur doing sports it's easy just start talking to people. be like hey r u ready for the game or sumthin. or people in your class be like gah this stuff is hard. JUST TALK!
p.s I hate it when people say be your self too.
Join a team of some sort. If you are any bit athletic join a sport it will give you a whole new group of friends. Even if you think you don't know the sport that is OK that is what joining a high school sport is all about. That is why there is a coach to teach you.
Relax most people find friends in high school. You may be friends with the person next to your locker. If you are not athletic there is always band and book club and yearbook and so much more.
I moved to a new state when I was 17 and found out I was pregnant a few weeks after getting there. I felt lost at first but even being pregnant in a new high school I did not put myself out there but people just ';came'; into my life and 8 months later I had 5 new friends in my delivery room when my son was born.
Just be yourself. You have a new chance at being you. Try something new or just be yourself. I am sure if you like who you are alot of others will like you too.
Good luck I wish I was in you shoes again.
Try to talk to people, invite them to do things, join a club, start a club, don't be shy.
i would say join some kind of sport or club. something you really like. There will be people there with similar interests. I got involved with a DARE program that was really fun
First thing is to be comfortable with your own self. Upper Classmen can smell fear (lol really it happens). Then you join some clubs, get into after school activities, and/or sports. Take elective classes where it's mostly participation that way you get to know people. My brothers closest friends were the guys on his football team. For me it was clubs, one club I was in is a national club called Business Professionals of America (BPA), it is competitive, and you meet people from all over the country. It was the most fun I ever had. I still talk to some of those people to this day and I graduated almost 5yrs ago. My acting class is another thing I did that I loved and met people. Just get into the things you love/enjoy, and friends will come with the common interests.
