Need hair advice: How to prevent extremely long hair from falling out?

I know it's normal for people to lose a little amount of hair everyday but it seems like mines coming out SO easily that it's more than normal, possibly due to weight of the strands and I mean something like 200-300 hairs falling out a day, maybe. It's just everywhere.. and my mum hates finding it in food and stuff lol.

1. I'd really like to grow my hair out to my knees (it's about at my hips now) but it's getting so annoying constantly falling out or breaking or knotting up so badly.. What can I do to prevent it falling out so much and grow it even longer? Besides trimming which I'll do.

2. Also what is the best way to style extremely long hair, so that it still looks good and isn't in your face/way?

3. Another question: my mum says that hairdressers refuse to colour /highlight hair as long as mine, is that true? She's always trying to get me to cut it down in length..but I love beautiful long hair.. mine seems to be lacking in the beautiful department though, please help! thanksNeed hair advice: How to prevent extremely long hair from falling out?
You should follow a couple of things...

1 Take some vitamins for hair, skin and nails. (I believe its vitamin A, but don't quote me on that).

2. Condition your hair (deeply) at least once a week. You could probably try twice a week seeing as your hair is so long.

3. Do not comb it as much. Studies show, that combing your hair excessivly can cause major hair loss.

4. Keep up on your trimming. Normal trims should be given every 6 to 8 weeks.

5. For styles, try braiding it. It will keep the hair out of your face and in a neat way. Also, try curling it, and putting it in a pony tail. Or, get a big clip to hold your hair up neatly. Also, try to stay away from any hair products (especially the one's with alcohol in them). Try using some professional ones.Need hair advice: How to prevent extremely long hair from falling out?
I know that long hair is beautiful, I have long hair (middle of my back) but when my hair was LONG (rear end length) I hated it (I thought I would like it)I had to worry about sitting on it and it would get EVERYWHERE. Cut it just a little bit maybe 2 or 3 inches and leave it at that length. I get my hair colored and I have no problems it just costs more. Don't forget to donate to locks of love!!
use a good daily conditioner and brush your hair often throughout the day. it's completely normal to lose that much in one day, you'll just see it more with long hair. hairdressers will color hair that long, but it will cost more. my hair is waist-length, and i just wear it down, or braided, or pulled back with a small clip.
I hate to be the one to break it to you, but being a guy i know for a fact that guys DO NOT find hair that long attractive. Get it cut shorter... WAY shorter! hair a little past the shoulder length is considered very long these days! when it's down to the hips it just gets disgusting. Sorry, but it's true. Just cut it shoulder length and then you won't even have to worry about it!

In order to continue growing out your hair you may need to take 1 step back to take 2 forward. In order for hair to be healthy you should consider layering your hair so it isnt ALL the same length. This will also help in making the hair healthier and reduce split ends. You can get it highlighted it will just be more expensive.
you need to increase your vitamin intake. i had the same problem and my dr. told me to take vitamins and my hair has never been better. go to your local drug store or walmart and in the vitamin aisle they alsomake some just for hair growth. and i would also switch to mane n tail shampoo and conditioner you can find taht anywhere they use it on horses to keep there hair long and healthy and it works great
yes it's normal to lose up to 100 hairs a day.make sure you keep it well moisturized and get regular trims for it to continue growing.i don't know that the hairdressers refuse to color or hi-light hair as long as your, but they charge alot more for hair like yours because it takes more coloring then the average dye job.
it's completely normal to lose that much! we do lose up to a few hundred a day. it's just more noticeable with long hair because you can see it easier! trust me, i have long hair and i'm cleaning it off my bathroom floor daily!

and no, it's not true. hairdressers will color longer hair
You want hair to your knees? That just freakish - and not very attractive.

Your hair will be breaking and in bad condition because of the length. It will only look healthy if all those broken and split ends are cut back.

But hey - it's your hair and if you want it like that, it's your choice.
Hair follicles switch on and off. When a hair gets long it switches off and the hair falls out. Some time later it will switch on again and grow a new hair. There is nothing you can do about that. But putting it in a ponytail might help stop it from falling into the wrong place.
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU!

When I eat more vitamins my hair doesnt fall as much. Also, when you comb your hair, try not to brush so hard. lightly and gently comb it till it is smooth. Also, when possible, pull your hair in a ponytail, it is harder for your hair to escape!
Don't STRAIGHTEN IT!

in fact avoid a hair straightener at all, that made my hair end all over the carpet in our house

straightening it too much just weakens it and literally singes it
Wow thats alot. Probably just stay away from the straightners, curlers, exc.
eat more protein it helps with hair loss for styles i dont know braids would be cool and if its wat u like dont let people change u and i think some people will color ur hair
IN MY OPINION, BETTER SHORTER THAN THIN OR BALD. GOOD LUCK
don't grow it you should just cut some of it like every 3 or 4 months
ewwwww.......i hate it when people have REALLY too long hair..............it looks bad...........
well ma mum is an hair dresser i asked her about ur problem here are some answerz....

1. put in something called Hair Food it makes ur hair not fall out and help ur scalp hold int he hair ur hair is falling out because ur scalp is weak thaT why u need hair food ok.

2.you have to trim it. or u could have split endz but no matter wat u need to trim it just lik 1 inch

3.to colour ur hair it dosent matter how long ur hair is wat ur hairdressser said it bull shyt! but if u still cant if i was u just do it yourself easy!!

4. to style long hair just braid 2 pony tails cute!

or u can tie it up high like fergi wen she had long hair.

or tie it in a bun messy bun or tidy bun ur chocie
there is no way to keep it from falling out. i bet you lose the same amount as everyone else, but it just looks like you lose more because of the length.

Keep longer layers at different lengths to give it some body. you'll have to blow dry the different layers under to try and coax it, then spray it.

But, this will cause more damange. if you air dry, twist it in small pieces and let it dry this way, you'll get more body. (may take too long though)

im sure it looks gorgeous the way it is...

(are you sure you want knee length though? sounds like high maint.)
What really work for my gold-hair :

YES, U can share that {secret}not-known-enough piece of health for your precious hair
Hey chica! I agree with you on long hair being beautiful! I would get it cut in layers to take some of the weight off and prevent tangles (Also gives it style :D) I would also invest in some shampoos and conditioners designed for long hair in that strenghten your strands (suggestions: mane%26amp;tail (Wal-mart), garnier fructis length and strength (Target), or herbal essences long hair (Target) Besides these brands, there are others that will work as well (all of these are relatively cheap though.) I would pull your hair up more often in braids or ponytails, or use barrettes and headbands to pull it out of your face. Also, try not to pull your hair too hard or overbrush it. Hope this helped!

P.S. If you have time, could you possibly send me some tips on growing long hair? I appreciate it if you do, but don't feel obligated!
some salons wont do it but most will just charge a little extra and if you are worried about it falling out DO NOT DYE IT that will weaken the hair thus makin it fall out and fo show try some hair strengthiners like the kind you leav in try a loose ponytail untillit gets stronger or a headband and listen i kno that'll work cuz thats what i did and my hair was less that a foot long and NO RUBBER BANDS finnaly try to keep your hair at the same length it is now and dont let it grow out any more for at least a week send me a message for more info. oh and no long hair isnt freakish those people tellin you that prob just cant grow their's out lol
wow, you got a lot of answers. everyone else basically answered everything, but don't wash your hair a lot. definitely don't wash it everyday, it will strip your hair. also try organic shampoo - its gentler without the sodium laureth/lauryl sulfates. regular conditioner works better than organic, and it doesn't have as many harmful chemicals as regular shampoo, so it's okay if you want to use it.

i wouldn't suggest perming or coloring it because that will weaken your hair. just try damp twists and air dry for loose curls. for waves do the same except with two french braids.
First, try to avoid using heat. It's ok every once in a while but NOT everyday. I suggest some kind of detangling spray to use in your hair after you shower. Just spray and comb through to get rid of those knots. To keep your hair out of your face, use headbands and clips/bobbypins to pull your long bangs back. Short bangs can cause acne on your face and I'm sure you wouldn't want that. Try not to tie your hairback because using hair ties and make your hair break even more.

And yes, trim trim trim. Every once in a while is good just to prevent split ends.

As for coloring your hair, I really have no idea. Maybe you can find a friend to do it for you? Just make sure they know what they are doing haha.
yeah i think you should continue growing your hair but i think it is normal that your hair is fallling out ..everyones hair falls out but some lose more then others..as long as there is no bald spots then your perfectly fine.....but i do suggest you like look around in the hair stored and find products that strenghen your hair...oh about the hairstyles i think you should be creative...well you can look in hair books that might help...no its not true about the hairdressers they will so it..ok thats it hope i helped
k 1. no one needs to know hair is in the food no one willl eat from you

2.um wash it daily and tie it down with a do-rag or head tie when your at home they sell them everywhere

3. um pony-tail or crimp it curl it or leave it down

4. no i don't think thats true the hairdresser has no choice they probably don't care except for the money but u never know till u try good luck hope i cud help
Two things come to mind. First of all, if you're losing a lot more hair than usual, you might need to have your thyroid checked out. Hair loss can be a symptom of some thyroid problems, easily treatable.

Secondly, a secret to having gorgeous hair when it is really long is to get a satin pillow slip. The satin does not rub the hair shaft in such a way so as to roughen up the cutical layers on each hair, but cotton pillowcases do. Just the simple act of turning your head at night roughs up the cutical sourrounding each hair. Satin will allow it to lay flat and smooth, and look shinier and healthier. Within 3 months you won't be able to tell it's your hair!

Finally, I'd suggest you use the best products you can afford. Keep it conditioned every time you wash it. Let the conditioner stay in your hair, even if it's the rinse-out kind. A nice way to keep it nice and smooth, and to encourage growth, is by keeping it in a long french braid down the back, maybe tucked under, and with a barrett clipped onto it.

Then just sit back and wait. Allow yourself another good 3 years or so to get it to the length you want. On the other hand, most people's hair will stop growing at the waist. It is rare that someone actually CAN grow it to their knees, even if they keep trying.

Once you get it to a nice long length, only then trim it a little bit. Maybe a couple of inches, to make it straight. Though it may take a while to get there, it will then be absolutely dazzling! Enjoy!!
wow. my hair is about the same length as you. i think you should either cut it when it gets to your knees (donate!!!!!) or donate it now. there are lots of kids out there who don't have hair because they lost it to like chemo or other permanent losses. its so sad. ive donated my hair 3 times before and am gonna do it again, but i love having long hair too...look online for cute hairstyles and see which one you like. then you when you decide you wanna cut it, cut at least 10 inches off so you can donate it (and get a free haircut (: ) and have a nice stylish haircut
ok here are the things you can do!

1.) DONT STRESS

the more you stress about Anything, the more you are likely to lose more hair and maybe even break out with more spots!

2.) CONSULT A HAIRSTYLIST

go around town one day and look around for a good hairstylist, or around ur friend circle if they know anyone. The good thing about talking to hair stylists are that they know - well EVERYTHING about hair! they are the best people to turn to actually.

3.) PHARMACY

try going to a pharmacy and ask the consultant for any products - say symptoms like ';you need a product for curing hair loss problems'; or ';hair strengthening products';, there HAS to be SOMETHING that can help! :)

4.) DOCTOR?!

if it is getting critically REALLY Bad, i truly suggest you go to a clinic. im not trying to be scary, but it could lead to much WORSE..SERIOUS issues. so professionals can really help you for sure.

5.) DONT WORRY!!!!

dont worry dear, there are many people that are skilled and have profession and work to help ! so look around for these people =]

there is always a way!

thank you for reading and i really hope you will be ok!

i hope i helped =]
Umm, you don't need a trim, you need a cut! The only thing that will help dramatically is if you cut it to at least your middle back. If you have your hair to your knees it will be unbearable and will always be tangled. When you have really long hair you are limited to what you can do with it, so the best thing is to braid it, and your mom is right most hairdressers won't color long hair because it wastes tons of expensive coloring paste. I think the only way to stop losing hairs, make it easy to manage, and pretty is to cut at least 5 inches
I would get a wave perm. That will make it wavy and beautiful all of the time. Plus, it will make it appear a tad (not a lot) shorter to please your mother. Then you can just pin it back for a romantic elegant look. Long hair will fall out, it's only natural. It's partly due to the weight pulling on the strands and partly because they are so long, they are dying. Hair dies all of the time and regrows, don't worry about it. Just brush it every morning to get all of the dead/dying strands out. Good Luck!
